Reading is the unitary authority in county Berkshire. In the map it can be seen at confluence of Thames and Kennet.

Reading in reality is not a borough. Urban Area of Reading includes eastern suburbs of Woodley, Earley and Lower Earley as well as Calcot. These are not under the borough.

Borough's population should have a population of 144,000 in an area of 40.40 km (to the power 2). The figure projected by the Office of National Statistics regarding Reading's urban area is much higher. It is 232,662 people in an area of 55.35 km (to the power 2).

Reading has been called the largest town in England, because of its urban sub-area.

The population of Earley at present is around 30,000 a significant increase as compared to what it was in the past. The population in 1948 was about 5000.
