They lay eggs and they like some dense weed to lay the eggs in and provide hiding places for the "fry" when they hatch.

Well some fish are live bearers which means that their young develop inside of the females body (its perfectly fine) and you never know when they will be born, i had 2 mollies and the female was looking a little fat, and one day i was looking at the tank, and saw a little flash come from the female that turned out to be a little baby fish,
Eggs (if they are egg layers) will probably be played in a place the fish feel most safest putting there eggs, like a small crack or hole.
All together though the babies should be born in about 2 weeks from when ever you 1st noticed - if nothing happens then don't give up hope because every fish has its own hatching/birth rate.
It sounds to me that your gold fish are probably keeping little ones inside of them ( i forget what its called)
and will soon come out when they are fully developed. Ive seen a few things that mentioned gold fish laying eggs but I'm guessing that it just depends on the kind of goldfish, just in case you should take your fish to the vet and have them take a look at the fish - just to make sure everything's all right
