What Is The Direct 3D?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Direct3D is element of Microsoft's DirectX API and is only obtainable for Microsoft's different Windows operating systems. Direct3D is used to make interactive, real-time, 3D applications and is used to make applications having three dimensional graphics e.g. games like Doom.

Users can access the Direct3D attributes in two modes.
    1. Retained Mode: High- level interface mode.
    2. Immediate Mode: Low level interface mode.

    These applications have following features:
    • Device independence
Can be used different hardware platforms and therefore become portable.

    • Common driver model:
It is guaranteed the driver support Direct3D; if they are not meant for Direct3D then they will support a distinct minimum set of features and capabilities. Direct3D gives requirement to hardware developers which make their cards to facilitate and support the various Direct3D features.

    • Transparent access to hardware acceleration
If the hardware platform does not support specific feature then this application gives corresponding implementation in software. This choice of using the hardware features is available to the user.

Besides above features Direct3D gives a speedy software based description of the full 3D rendering pipeline. A probable constraint on Direct3D is the limitation of using it with DirectX and with its different components.
