Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivation are two main types of motivation. Intrinsic motivation happens when the learning activity and learning environment creates motivation in a person. There is no reward for achievement in this kind of motivation. On the other hand extrinsic motivation is the one that comes from outside the performer. People are prompted through punishments or rewards and their motivation is controlled.
