You can try a product called GooGone. It works really well getting roofing tar out of carpet, but you do have to scrub a bit. Use a wash cloth to scrub with, then once it is loosened, use a damp wash cloth to finish up the job with.
Pine tar dries hard, so you may have to let the Goo Gone sit for a while after you spray it..
