    Leicester is said to be one of the biggest city in English East Midlands. Leicester is positioned on the River Soar towards the edge of the English National Forest. The inner-city stretches past the borders of the city to cover other towns like Oadby, Wigston, Braunstone Town, Birstall, Blaby, Thurmaston, etc.

    According to the census conducted in the year 2001, the total area of this city was estimated to be 73.32 square kilometer. As of the year 2005, the total population of this city was said to 288,000, having an average population density of 3,928 per square kilometer.

    Leicester gets most of its revenue from the food processing, hosiery, footwear, knitwear, engineering and printing industries. Leicester has a diverse cultural minority population, primarily from the Indian subcontinent. There are quite a few Muslim mosques, Sikh gurdwaras and Hindu temples based in this city.
