    The total area of Duluth can be divided into land, city area and water. The land area is 68 square miles or 176.19 square kilometres. The city area is 87.3 square miles or 226.2 square kilometres and the water surface area is 19.3 square miles or 50.01 square kilometres.

    Duluth is situated in the St. Louis County in Minnesota. The total population according to the year 200 census is 184,000 including people from villages and outer suburbs. Duluth is also a seaport on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The Atlantic Ocean is 2,300 miles away; however, Duluth is connected to it through the Great Lakes.

    It is also connected to the Atlantic Ocean through the New York State Barge Canal/Erie Canal or the Saint Lawrence Seaway. In the single metropolitan of Duluth, both Superior and Wisconsin are together called the Twin Ports.
