Where Is Blackrock Sands?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Blackrock known as Na Creagacha Dubha in the Irish language is a coastal village situated south of Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. The village is based in the town of Haggaardstown. The total population of the town is said to be around 3,000.

Around the 50s and the 60s, Blackrock was a favourite holiday destination for people who live in the closed in region of Managhan and Cavan. The beach which is famously photographed on many postcards of that time was made from sands which were brought in from beaches that were there further down the coastline.

Even though Blackrock is no longer measured as a tourist destination, there remains an old custom of taking a trip to Blackrock on the 15th of August, because of the Celtic feast of Lunasa.
