I Am Close To Graduation, What Should I Do Next?

Answer Question

Well it rather depends what you have studied, and whether you are keen to pursue a career in the field you studied in.
I suggest you think back to what your goals where when you, started, and perhaps you even wrote them down.
Then when you have decided what you goal is, and believe me you will need one, to get you through the more difficult moments of indecision and testing as you wait to land that job.
Then your next course of action, should be to write the best C.V. of your life up to now, with a covering letter addressed to Dear Sirs, you'll need twenty or so.

Send these to a list of companies you have identified as the best in the area you want to work in, and some others too, for good measure.

The C.V. should be concise and professional, and should give them positions of leadership or responsibility at high school and university, plus any clubs or associations you contribute to.Your contacts and friends made at University, will prove valuable contacts in this job search.

Try to get a character reference from a family friend, who is older and established, and can be contacted.
    Well done for graduating!

What would you like to do after graduation?  Do you need to get a job immediately or could you go travelling for a period of time?

If you need to start looking for a job, you need to make sure that you have got an up to date resume/cv and that you have an idea of where you would like to work.  If you find it difficult to get a job, then you could look for an internship or a position that is voluntary, like in a charity or a charity shop.

If you want to go travelling, there are a number of specialist trave agents that will sell you 'round the world' tickets, or you could go travelling within your own country, most people don't know their own country so well!  Travelling will certainly broaden the mind, but can be quite expensive.

Of course, you could return for further study which will always improve your chances of getting a job and broadening your knowledge.
