How Do Sail Boats Operate?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The energy which steers a sail boat is used by controlling and regulating the relative motion of wind and water speed, if there is no disparity in the motion, like on a calm day or when the wind as well as the water current are moving towards the same direction, there is no energy to be obtained and the sail boat will be unable to do much except drift.

However when there exists a dissimilarity in movement, then energy is available in order to be obtained at the inter face, and the sail boat performs this activity by positioning the sail or sails in the air and the hull or hulls in the water.

Sails are basically air foils which work on the principle of making use of an air flow created by the movement of the boat.
