How Do You Know If A Cat Is Frightened?
Answers
It might run away before you can see any actual signs but that's a big clue in itself. Frightened cats will breathe rapidly, their pulse will be racing and they will feel and look tense to the point of rigidity. They might crouch very low and their fur might rise up on their back and their tail. They might tremble and they might hiss or behave aggressively, snarling and scratching at anything and anyone coming close to them. They might hide and they might soil themselves. Just like in human beings adrenaline is pumping through them and adrenaline makes us evacuate our bowels. Use a soothing voice but even if you know a cat well think twice before trying to stroke a cat in this kind of state. They will lash out and they are capable of inflicting serious damage on an ungloved hand. Vets are used to handling frightened cats so don't let it put you off taking them in to be examined.
