The word basso describes a singer who sings in the lowest vocal range that a human being can achieve. The word is an Italian one and is applied for a male singer only. These singers are very versatile and can take their voices to various ranges.
Basso singers play an important role in opera and are often classified according to the different kind of voices. The classifications are following: Basso Profando, Basso Cantante and Dramatic Bass.
Basso Profandos are known to have a deep voice and they sing even lower than normal range of Bassos while Basso Cantante is a kind of voice that is lyrical one.
These singers play some other roles also like in musicals and you can see them in The Mikado of Japan and in the Private Hills.
