In the legal system of the United Kingdom, there are basically three types of power of attorney. They are attorney-in-fact, oral and written powers of attorney and the rule of equal dignity.
An attorney-in-fact is defined as a person who acts as a fiduciary agent on behalf of the principal. He must be fair, loyal and honest in his dealings with the principal. In case of oral and written powers of attorney, as the name implies, the power of attorney may either be verbal or may be in writing.
The rule of equal dignity is the third type of power of attorney. It is defined as a principle of law which requires a document which authorises a person who represents another person who is formally appointed to perform the same acts as the principal's representative.
