How To Deal With Chase Credit Card Raising My Monthly Amount From 2% Of The Balance To 5%?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

First off, do NOT stop paying them as suggested, thinking you will be able to settle for .60cents on the dollar.  It is very common right now and especially with Chase, that they are raising the monthly min payment.  You can try calling them, and getting it reduced, but do not expect them to budge.  If you have decent credit still, try applying for another card so you can transfer the balance.  The credit card companies are trying to stick anything they can to the customers now before the rules change in 2010.

Quit paying them and within 2 months they will offer to settle the account for 60 cents on the dollar.

This is completely untrue. What they will do is start collection calls to him, and if he still takes your advice and doesn't pay, they will send his account to an outside agency that will possibly sue him. Meanwhile, his credit score plummets from taking your advice to not pay his bill.
