Poetry is usually written to express thoughts or feelings. You need to be creative, and write down how you feel, although it does depend on what type of poetry you are aiming to write.
Study the language of some existing poetry. Take a look at the rhythm and rhyme of these poems, how they are structured etc. Poems contain different forms of language, such as alliteration, symbolism, irony etc. Also take a look at different genres, such as epic poetry, narrative poetry, lyric poetry etc. These will help you you gain knowledge of how poems are written and help you gain inspiration.
If you are writing a poem to express your feelings though, then you can only really study the language of similar poems as it's not really about how good they are. It is difficult to class this type of poetry as good because it is based on the poet's feelings.
However, these type of poems can be good in the way that they may have an impact on the reader, so if that is what you are aiming for then perhaps you should take a look at these type of poems and see what effect they have on you.
Once you have done this try writing your own. But remember to express how you feel and write down your thoughts for yourself - don't just write down words simply to impress the reader.
