Relational databases represent the data in the form of tables or in the row/column format. Relational databases are widely used for recording larger amounts of data by variety of organizations. Each data element is represented as field with its relevant field type and is related to an entity. An entity can have many fields or attributes related to it. For example entity such as 'Student Information' can have fields such as student ID, student name, student father's name, student educational status etc. This entity will have all the relevant and similar fields organized in the form of table format. In the example mentioned above, Student information will be a table and the data in the fields will describe the information about the table. Each table or entity is linked with all the other tables or entities of the database by means of a primary key. For example, the table named as 'student fee' in a college database might be linked with another table 'student Information' by means of one single common attribute such as 'student ID' (which serves as primary key in this example). Microsoft Access and Oracle are the most widely used relational databases and are used by majority of businesses.
