The Sydney Opera House is one of the famous modern structures located on Bennelong Point at the entrance of Sydney harbor; it is a national landmark of the continent of Australia. Its most famous feature is the shell like shape of the structure a marvel of modern engineering and architecture.
It was designed by Danish architect Jorn Utzon with funding by the New South Wales government; the concept was selected from among others as part of a competition announced in 1956 to finalize the design of the Opera House. Accordingly construction began in about 1961, however there were several issues involved some bureaucratic, some financial and some technical which proved to be roadblocks in its completion; Jorn Utzon had to resign midway in 1966 and his place was taken by Peter Hall who saw through the project to its end in 1971. And finally on October 20, 1973 the Sydney Opera House was opened, the inauguration being done by Queen Elizabeth II.
