Where Is Limestone Found?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

A sedimentary rock contains large amount of mineral calcite. Limestones are often composed of small amounts of silica which is in the form of Chert or Flint. 10% of limestone makes up the total amount of all the sedimentary rocks. Unadulterated limestones are either white or close to white. Limestone shows different colors due to impurities such as iron oxide, clay, organic remains, and sand. Limestone is very reactive to acids. Many limestone sculptures and buildings are affected by acid rains due to this problem

Lime stone is found in North America, Europe, and also in some parts of Canada. The city of Indiana has long been a major source for Limestone in the United States. Limestones often grow on islands. Places where limestone is found include Ha Long Bay [Vietnam], Notch peak [Utah], and Niagara Escarpment [Canada/USA]. Other countries where limestone is found include France, North Yorkshire [England], and the Swedish Island of Gotland.
