Is An Inkjet Printer Better Or A Laser Printer?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

An inkjet printer and a laser printer use different technologies to print and as such both offer good quality depending on one's use and requirements. Inkjet printers print using a method in which ink is sprayed on paper in the form of spots; the sharpness and overall quality of printing is reasonably good. Inkjet printers are ideal for use in homes and can print in black and white as well as color; the ink is stored in the form of cartridges which have to be refilled or replaced once the ink gets exhausted.

Laser printers offer high quality printing ideal for commercial purpose where high quality text and high resolution is a must. Laser printers use a technology somewhat similar to the Xerox machine and are faster as compared to inkjet printers; they use toner cartridges and are known to last for a longer period of time. Another factor is that though laser printers are expensive as compared to inkjet printers they cost less as compared to consumables like ink cartridges.

Many microcomputers systems rely on relatively inexpensive personal laser printers costing between $300 and $ 1,500 and printing 4 to 12 pages per minute. Most of these generate resolutions of at least 600 dpi. At 600 dpi, every square inch of the output image is broken down into a 600 by 600 matrix of dots. That's 360,000 dots packed into every square inch of the output image is broken down into a 600 by 600 dots. That's 360,000 dots packed into every square inch . Laser devices are especially popular in business, in fact they are the most common type of printer sold to that market segment.

Laser printers from images much as photocopying machines do by charging thousands of dots on a drum with a very high intensity laser beam. The charged positions attract charged particles of toner from a cartridge. When paper contacts the drum, it picks to toner that forms an image . A heating unit fuses the image permanently onto the paper .For magazine quality images, these printers often produce pages sharp enough to accommodate proofing purposes. While they do not generate output of photographic quality, color laser printers work faster than many other types of colour printers, and the output quality is quite acceptable for a rather simple page image.Laser Printers are of high Quality and are more useful for commercial purposes.
