General Colin Luther Powell is a retired general of the US army as well as the former Secretary of State of the United States government. He was born on the 5th of April, 1937. He served as Secretary of State under President George W. bush for a period of Four years from the 20th of January, 2001, to the 23rd of January, 2005.
He was given the nomination by Bush on the 196th of December, 2001, and was later confirmed as Secretary of State by the Senate by a unanimous decision.
He has been the first African American to have held such a high rank in the executive section of the government as well as the highest ranking African American in the military of the United States.
