Is There Any Criticism Of The Macrobiotic Diet?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The macrobiotic diet propounded by Japanese philosopher George Ohsawa is based on the principle of Yin and Yang (duality) and advocates a diet that is balanced and harmonious to the body with respect to the nature of the food, its taste, appearance, the way it has been cooked as also the place where the food has been grown and the time of the year.

The diet emphasizes on intake of cereals, fruits and vegetables, pulses and limited amounts of animal products; the diet also included various Japanese food items like soy sauce, seaweed, sushi, rice balls and the like and it has been observed by many dietitians that sticking to the diet rigidly would cause more harm than good.

Also the macrobiotic diet has been observed to be nutritionally imbalanced especially with respect to proper intake of fats and proteins. Also the macrobiotic diet is supposed to prevent cancer though the claim itself is not properly justified.
