    Preparation is a noun form of the verb prepare. It has its origin in Latin and is taken from the word prepare. It was adapted preparer by Old French and as preparen by Middle English. The verb prepare means 'fix, fit, make, prime, ready, arrange, lay-out, schedule and work out'. The act or process of fixing something or getting ready for something is termed as preparation. For example: the students were engrossed in the preparations for their examinations. It means that the students were busy studying for the exams.

    Preparation when used as plural (preparations) means a basic measure that helps to get ready for something. For example: preparations for the President's arrival or preparations for the wedding.
