What Are The Uses Of Atomic Energy?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

When atom is broken up, a lot of energy is produced. This atomic energy has been used for destructive as well as for constructive purposes. The first well known destructive use was the making of atom bomb. The atom bomb was dropped during second world war on two Japanese cities. This caused large scale destruction. Thousands of people died or seriously become ill.

Several countries have atomic submarines and ships that run on atomic energy. These are to be used in wars causing mass destruction.
Scientists have developed atomic power plants to produce electricity. Several plants are to be set in different parts of country. In the advanced countries like the US, Britain, Russia, Japan, Canada, Australia, France etc electricity is produced from atomic power plants on very large scale.

Further, atomic reactors for boiling water are in use in advanced countries. Scientists are trying to use atomic energy as a fuel for planes, cars and ships. The radiation given out by atomic reactors are used for treatment of diseases like cancer. They are also used for killing dangerous germs and insects. Scientists should use atomic energy only for constructive and peaceful purposes and should not use it for destruction.

Atomic energy is an obsolete phrase which can mean a number of things related to energy fashioned by atoms:Radioactivity, the deposit of various processes by which unsound atomic nuclei (nuclides) emanate subatomic particles.Nuclear reaction, a course in which two nuclei or nuclear particles collide, to produce different products than the initial products; observe also nuclear fission and nuclear synthesis.

Nuclear energy, energy shaped by nuclear reactors .The energy of inter-atomic or chemical bonds, which holds atoms as one in compounds. The term may have originated with H. G. Wells in the phrase, "splitting the atom", devised at a time previous to the unearthing of the nucleus. The term is a mistake.

International research is continuing into various safety improvements such as passively safe plants, the use of nuclear fusion, and added uses of produced heat such as the hydrogen production (in support of a hydrogen economy), for desalinating sea wet, and for use in district heating systems. Controlled nuclear reactions are also used for other purposes such as alteration and particle radiation, for use in investigate (such as particle accelerators), drug (such as PET scans), and various additional applications (such as burn detectors and minute batteries).
