Whilst it does sound strange, knitting can definitely help to lower blood pressure and strangely enough, some doctors even prescribe it to their patients! Long gone are the days when knitting was just for little old women, now even the men are doing it to lower their blood pressure. It is even taught at some schools to improve co-ordination.
Concentrating on the knitting, your breathing becomes a lot calmer, and you do tend to relax more. This can bring the blood pressure down and keep you less stressed. The benefits of knitting are only just being realised and celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Madonna have made the craft a lot more popular. It is mainly used to help relax the mind and often, people come up with solutions to their problems whilst they are knitting. This is because the mind is focused on something else and it is able to be objective without becoming stressed.
Overall, knitting is no longer known as something that old people do. More and more young people are turning to it in order to help them relax in their busy lifestyles. It is a cheap hobby which really can have excellent health benefits!
