Why Do Motor Vehicles Have Gears?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Motor vehicles contain gears for purely operation purposes – however the main reason for installing gears in motor vehicles is that petrol engines have very little power at low speeds.  So while the wheels are moving in a slow and steady motion, the configuration of gears in a motor vehicle is absolutely vital specially when the car needs the engine to  turn fast in situations like climbing a hill.  It is the presence of gears that allows the driver to adjust the proportion of speed rate in accordance with the pertinence of the situation and also balancing the ratio between the speed of the wheels and the pace of the engine.  The gears are configured in a particular arrangement so as when the driver desires to move faster, he can link the engine shaft to the transmission through large to small gears and when he wants to move slower, he can shift the transmission from small to large gears.
