Fields of statistics are constantly evolving with the emergence of wide spread uses of statistics in different fields. However we can classify statistics having four basic fields i.e. Descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, mathematical statistics and applied statistics. Descriptive statistics accounts for various techniques and methods for collecting and analyzing data, mathematical statistics make use of lots of mathematical tools for carrying out operations on data. Inferential statistics allows the individuals to make hypothesis or draw useful conclusions from the data. Applied statistics is used for applying the statistical knowledge in practical fields such as Biostatistics, business statistics, econometrics, engineering statistics, demography etc.
