Plants derive essential nutrients and water from the Soil through these small hair like outgrowths on their roots called the "tertiary roots". They form a complex tunnel work which works it's way through capillaries supplying water and nutrients to the rest of the plant and it's leaves where it is used to synthesize carbohydrates and Oxygen through Photosynthesis. Plant cells are composed of semi permeable membrane and function through a process called "osmosis" for an exchange of nutrients and other materials.
