    Forests are very important in the geography of a region.  For starters, forests go a long way in sustaining ecological stability, maintaining a balance in the environment with its attributes of keeping a check on pollution and also contributing towards the prevention of soil erosion that could be caused by wind or sometimes water, most specifically on grounds that have a slope.  Moreover forests, with their attribute of preventing soil erosion, have trees that play a role in regulation of supply of water, having a major contribution in preventing floods.  Moreover the decomposition of leaves into humus also takes place in forests – this humus further makes the soil more fertile, thus promoting further growth and greenery.  As from a commercial regard, forest provide many materials that are the most essential in many industrial and commercial processes, that indirectly contributes to the country's economy.  Moreover the recreational nature of forests encourages tourists to visit them, helping the economy of the country in another way.  Not only that but forests also generate a number of employment opportunities for people.

    they filter carbon dioxide (what we breathe out). Carbon dioxide is harmful to the ozone layer.
