What Should One Feed A Hedgehog?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Hedgehogs are essentially insectivorous creatures though they are known to feed on roots and fruits like melons and berries as well. Hedgehogs are competent hunters however in times of scarcity one could feed them with small amounts of cat food though not frequently.

Another thing about hedgehogs is that their diet comprises low fat protein rich food, the kind it obtains from worms and insects, and foods that are consumed by humans are in most cases unfit for hedgehogs. Small chunks of cooked meat or eggs along with a few pieces of vegetables now and then are enough to satiate a hedgehog.

Dairy products should be as far as possible avoided as hedgehogs have difficulty in digesting them. A hedgehog should not be overfed as it can lead to several problems like loss of flexibility and may even be fatal, ideally hedgehogs should be fed at the most twice in a day.
