Bradley in English means a 'broad clearing in the woods'. Bradley can also be a place name or a person's name.
One such person was Henry Bradley, the second editor of the Oxford English Dictionary. He succeeded James Murray as a senior editor. Bradley was also a lexicographer and a philologist and wrote a column in the Academy. This remarkable man was a corresponding clerk for a business house till the age of 39. Only after he began editing the Dictionary did he get recognition for his remarkable erudition.
He received honorary degrees from Oxford and Heidelberg Universities and was made a fellow of Magdalen College and British Academy. He was also the co-founder of the Society for Pure English and President of Philological Society.
