Are The Winters Harsh In Dundee?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

No winters are not harsh in Dundee. Although Dundee is located at 55'N latitudes, winters are quite mild and temperatures remain above freezing point for most of the time. January and February are the coldest months and during this period, the temperature can be below freezing at night. There also can be occasional snow.  This mild winter is primarily because of the proximity to ocean. Ocean influences the climate to be much milder both during and winter and summer. Other places such as Moscow which lies in the same latitudes, experience far harsher winter temperatures as they are far from ocean influence.
Winter in Dundee is also much drier than other places in UK and Scotland. It has more sun shine than most places in Scotland. The weather in Dundee can sometimes be unpredictable. However, during the summer months it can be warm and sunny. On the whole the climate in Dundee, Scotland is considered mild.
