What Does The Word Compass Mean?

    A compass is an instrument of navigational use.  A compass is used for finding directions on the earth. A compass comprises of a magnetized pointer which is free to align itself accurately with Earths magnetic field. So we can say that the Earth's Magnetic field is of great assistance in navigation. Compass has made travel safer and more efficient. To simply say, the word compass itself means a magnetic device which uses a needle to indicate the direction of the earth's magnetosphere. Any instrument which uses a magnet bar or needle turning and pointing to the north or south direction can be called a compass.
