How Do Can You Improve Your Communication Skills During An Interview?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The ability to use good communication skills during an interview comes with practice. Therefore, the more interviews you have, the better your skills will become. Realizing this will help you to appreciate the valuable experience that you get from an interview, even if it doesn't result in you getting the job.

Listening is key to being a good communicator. Pay attention to the interviewer's questions. Answer in a way that shows you have listened well to what the interviewer is asking.

Good communicators often organize their thoughts before  they speak. Take a few moments to gather your ideas before answering a question. Of course you don't want to pause for half an hour before answering a question, but a moment's reflection shows that you are thoughtful.

Lastly, be direct. Try to communicate in a polite, but succinct and efficient way. Employers know the pitfalls of wasting hours of company time due to miscommunications. They will want to hire someone who can 'cut to the chase' - with grace!
