Which Has More Momentum? A Car Or Train?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Momentum is defined as mass times velocity.

It depends on how fast they are travelling.

A train could weigh 10,000 kg and travel at 1 meter/second, and have a momentum of 10,000 kg m/s.

A car could weigh 1,000 kg and travel at 10 meters/second, and have a momentum of 10,000 kg m/s

The momentums can be the same,
or you can change the numbers a couple
of times, and the car could have more momentum, of the train could have more momentum
