Who Built The Messerschmitt?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Messerschmitt or the Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the mainstay of the Luftwaffe or the German Air Force during the Second World War. It was built by the Messershmitt-Bolkow-Blohm (MB) a World War Two German aircraft manufacturer. The plane was designed by Wilhelm 'Willy' Messerschmitt.

The Messerschmitt was one of the most successful fighter aircrafts ever with over 35,000 built in all. The plane first flew in 1935, went into service in 1937 and was in active service in Spain as recently as 1965.

No other fighter scored as many kills as the Messerschmitt during the Second World War. The plane was being progressively replaced by the more advanced Focke-Wulf Fw 190 from 1942 onwards but remained at par with most allied fighters till the end of hostilities.
