Multimedia refers to software that is used or includes information processing related to text, audio, animation, graphics, and video. Multimedia software are available in different versions from different companies including QuickTime from Apple, Windows Media Player by Microsoft, the immensely popular VLC player from VideoLAN project, Real Media by Real Networks etc. Different people preferred different versions of Media Players. Some found some varieties easier to use than most others. Sometimes older versions of these players are unable to play certain media files that require codec. In these cases access to the internet may become necessary.
One issue that did gain notoriety recently was that of Microsoft was providing Windows Media Player with every installation of windows and that users were more or less not looking out for alternatives.
