What States Have A Statue Of Limitations Of More Than 4 Yrs?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Well....first of all, it's "statute" of limitations....with T.  A "statute" is another word for law.  A "statue" is....well, we know what that is.

What the statute of limitations does is protect citizens from frivolous prosecutions.  A prosecutor has a certain limit of time to file criminal charges against someone.  If the prosecutor can't collect enough evidence to bring the suspected criminal to trial within that time limit, the suspect can no longer be subject to charges or trial.

Different crimes have different time limits, and those limits can vary by state.  No state has a blanket four-year statute of limitations.  The only exception is that there is no statute of limitations on murder.

    Hope this helped.
