Where Is The Dust Bowl?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Dust Bowl actually refers to the man-made, artificial desert, which is located in the Central United States.  This particular name was given to the desert in the 1930's.  The Dust Bowl has earned its name in attribution to the dust storms that are immensely intense in nature.  One such storm in 1933 was traced for a whole 1300 miles to northern New York.

The origin of the Dust Bowl came about in the late 1800's when homesteaders were relentlessly and inadvertently migrating towards the west and planting their crops in the short-glass country, a land which was previously called the American desert.  Such crops were ploughed there, which were resistant to drought, disease and insects.  The great drought that lasted from 1932 to 1937 actually led to the Dust Bowl and caused the abandonment of big pieces of land, a situation so adverse that the then president of the United States had to step in to prevent its harmful effects. This happened on 23rd march 1940.
