What Is The Difference Between "E.g." And "I.e." And When Do You Use Which?

I was trying to figure this one out the other day and I'm not sure I understand the difference between these two, nor do I understand when to use which! Can you help me?

I am not sure of the "e.g.", but I have used the latter when needing to describe something.  It stands for "illustrative example"

E.g. is used to mean "for example".  I.e. means "that is".  It's used when we want to clarify what we mean or to show an example of what we are trying to get across to someone else.  I suppose you might use it to mean "In other words...".  One could say "She got home two hours later than usual.  That is, she missed her curfew." or "In other words, she missed her curfew.".  Not the greatest example but, it should help.
