There has been much speculation regarding shingle street, and information based on rumours is rife. There is still no official explanation as to what happened, the most popular theory is that a landing of German soldiers was foiled, many of the buildings were destroyed by the RAF at the time, and currently Shingle Street faces being destroyed by erosion into the sea and within 20 years may be gone totally. There are many web sites relating to the happenings in 1940. And a letter was sent to the head of secret services in the UK to ask for assistance regarding this, so far no reply has been received.
