Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Memorial Day in 2006 fell on the 29th of May; as a rule it is generally celebrated on the last Monday in May. Memorial Day in 2007 will fall on the 28th of May; in 2008, on the 26th of May; in 2009, on the 25th of May; and in 2010, on the 31st of May; because all these days are the last Mondays in those years. Memorial Day commemorates those who died serving in the military of the United States. It was first observed to commemorate those who died in the American Civil War. Later, after the First World War it was extended to include all those who died for their country in any military engagement. People honour these heroes in different ways. Some visit cemeteries while others fly the flag at half mast.

Memorial Day is a day in the United States, which is considered to be a federal holiday. This day usually falls on the last Monday of May. So according to the calendar this year the day will fall on 2007-05-28. It was earlier known as Decoration Day. This day is celebrated in memory of all the US men and women who passed away while serving for the US military. This day was celebrated first in honour of Union soldiers who expired during the American Civil War. It is during this day that people spend their time visiting various cemeteries. The time of homage that the whole country stops at is around 3 pm. Another custom is to fly the US Flag at half-staff from crack of dawn until noon restricted time.
