Do Hamsters Eat Fruit?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Yes, hamsters can eat some fruit.  But you only want to give them a very, very tiny piece of fruit.  No citrus.  The fruits that are good are apple, cherry, blueberry for example.  No pineapple unless it is dried.  Give the tiny piece of fruit at night and the next morning, remove any remaining pieces of that fruit.  Dried fruit that comes in some of the hamster food is great for them.  A small piece once a week is great.  Too much fruit and they will get diarrhea.  You can also give them raw carrot, pepper, lettuce, but these are also in a very small piece.  Your fruit should be no larger than a dime and not too thick.  The vegetables should be about the same size.  The lettuce may be about the size of a quarter.  Remember if you hamster does not like the food or he/she does not eat it all, remove it.  You do not want bad food in the cage.
