Preston North End Football Club was founded in 1880. Originally a cricket club, Preston North End had tried to adopt rugby as an alternative method of attracting enough fans to pay for the expensive costs associated with cricket. However this was not a successful venture and football was opted for instead.

Preston North End was one of the original twelve founding members of the Football League which was formed in 1888.

Their highest honours include winning the First Division title in 1888/89 and 1889/1890 seasons as well as being the FA cup winners in 1888/89 and 1937/38.

Preston North End Football Club has had a variety of nicknames including 'the Lilywhites', 'the Invincibles' 'Northenders' and 'the Guild'.
They club plays at their home ground of Deepdale which has a capacity for approximately 19,500 people.
The club currently resides in the Championship and finished in 4th place in the 2005/06 season but unfortunately missed out on promotion via the play-offs.
