Louis Braille is a well known personality in history because of his contributions to the welfare of blind people. He is best known for his invention for blind people called Braille.

Louis Braille was born in the year 1809 at Coupvray, France. He was not blind by birth, in fact he became blind as a result of an accident when he was only three years of age. He was a bright student and earned scholarship for his further studies. He suffered many difficulties in finding  books to read as there were only 14 books at his school for blind people. Inspired by a French Army Captain, Charles Barbier, he invented a raised dot system for blind people so that they could read and write with ease. This, he did when he was only 15 years of age. However, this system was not recognized until two years after his death, in the year 1854.
