What Can You Tell Me About Wiltshire?

    Wiltshire is a large county but with many different features.  It does not have a great number of large cities and towns which makes it a rural and pleasant county. The largest town is Swindon in the north with a population of around 156,000 and the county town of Trowbridge in the west with only a population of around 30,000.

    In the main in consists of high chalk downs and one of its largest areas is Salisbury Plain, 300 square miles and famous for Stonehenge. The M4 motorway passes through the county from London in the east to South Wales in the west.

    Salisbury Plain is also home to the Ministry of Defence and a training ground for troops and tanks because of is open uninhabited areas.  There is a high number of service personnel stationed there and it is regarded as the biggest military training area in the UK.
