A vector quantity is Physics is described as a quantity which has both motion and direction. That is, a vector quantity is two dimensional. Examples include displacement, velocity, acceleration and force. Displacement defines an object's positional change in a particular direction. Velocity defines the rate at which an object is changing its position to a particular direction. Velocity is computed by the formula: Velocity = Displacement / Time. Acceleration is defined as the rate at which an object changing its velocity. It is formulated as, Acceleration = Change in Velocity / Time. Forces is defined as a push or pull upon an object exerting from the interaction among different objects including physical contact forces and non-contact or action-at-a-distance forces. Contact force means the force generated if two or more objects coincide together. Examples include frictional force, Tensional force. On the other hand, non-contact or action-at-a-distance force refers the force generated as a result of two or more objects without any physical contact in between. Examples include, gravitational force, electrical force.

Vector is the line of specific length and in a specific direction. Vectors are widely used in physics to show the direction and magnitude of the quantities. For example, if a person has to show the traveling route of a traveler from east to north and then north to south etc then he can make a vector diagram in which the length of the vector may represent the distance while the arrow head shows the direction. These diagrams are also known as vector graphics and they are commonly used in computer graphics as well.

I believe a vector has to do with travel. Example airline pilots use vector when they determine direction of travel. They need to take in consideration the winds and weather when they plot their routes and they use vector as the measurement.
