Can Only Male Goldfish Be Kept In A Tank?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Male and female goldfish can be kept in a fish tank. Your main concern would be the size of the tank. Goldfish produce large amounts of ammonia so you need very large tanks that you can give at least 10 gallons per goldfish. Example, a 55 gallon tank could only have 5 goldfish and NO other fish. Your second concern would be having more female goldfish than male goldfish. If you only have one female then the male could exhaust her to death by constantly chasing her to breed. Two females would dispurse the chasing.
