There are a lot of types of Dial Up modems in the market. But the most use able is the PCI modems which always work in Personal computers and server computers too. These work in PCI slots in computers and very easy to configure, mostly these kind of modems are plug and play and not need the drive but sometimes they need a driver. These kinds of modems also called internal modems. The second most advanced shape is the External modems, which connects with the computer with serial or USB cable, and its out from the PC. The third shape is the PCMCIA modem cards which usually uses in the Laptops and the new PDA's, its very slim modem card and always connects with the PCMCIA slots in the Laptops. These slots exists externally in all the Laptops and PDA's, user just have to insert the card in this slot.

The next thing is the Bluetooth and Infrared modems which need both sides same connection, mean to say if one device has the Bluetooth then the second must have the Bluetooth to fulfill the accurate connection.
