Are Bushbabies Rodents Or Marsupials?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

They are neither; bushbabies are primates. They are interesting and attractive animals that like to live in well wooded areas.
Despite their wide-eyed and startled appearance, bushbabies are not quiet and shy. In fact, quite the opposite; they are vocal and communicating with each other using a wide variety of calls. Some of these calls are plaintive-sounding and said to resemble those of a crying baby, hence the name.

But its name may derive from its cute cuddly toy looks evoked by its soft woolly coat, long furry tail, large round eyes and large ears.

Being tree-dwellers, bushbabies are extremely agile and equipped with long fingers and toes to add climbing. Some species of bushbaby have been credited with leaps of up to seven metres between branches. Their long tails are used for balancing.

While their leaps in the trees are similar to those executed by frogs, on the ground the bushbaby hops on its hindlegs like a mini kangaroos. This is probably why so many people assume the bushbaby is a marsupial.
