 Japan is a constitutional monarchy and the power of the Emperor is very limited. He acts as the ceremonial figurehead and is the symbol of the state and unity of the people. However, all the powers are held by the Prime Minister of Japan and other elected members of the Diet, which are elected by the Japanese people.
